Summary

Noor Unnahar is a young female voice with power and depth。 The Pakistani poet's moving, personal work collects and makes sense of the phases of collapsing and rebuilding one's self on the treacherous modern path from teenager to adult。 Tinged with the heartbreak of a broken home and the complexity of a rich cultural background, yesterday i was the moon stands out from the Insta-poetry crowd as a collection worth keeping。

yesterday i was the moon centers around themes of love and emotional loss, the catharsis of creating art, and the struggle to find one's voice。 Noor's poetry ranges from succinct universal truths to flowery prose exploring her heritage, what it means to find a physical and emotional home, and the intimate and painful dance of self-discovery。 Her poetry and art has already inspired thousands of fans on Instagram to engage with her words through visual journal entries and posts of their own, and her fan base only continues to grow。

This was a nice collection all about struggling artists, the sense of home and navigating family and heartbreak。 I read it easily in one sitting。 My main criticism is that I thought the similes were reasonably repetitive and nothing I haven't heard before。 There was definitely some really pretty poems and the drawings were pretty fine line pieces which fit the mood of the collection。 My favourite was the one that stated heartbreak is like "a bolt of lightning, striking a building, made up of del This was a nice collection all about struggling artists, the sense of home and navigating family and heartbreak。 I read it easily in one sitting。 My main criticism is that I thought the similes were reasonably repetitive and nothing I haven't heard before。 There was definitely some really pretty poems and the drawings were pretty fine line pieces which fit the mood of the collection。 My favourite was the one that stated heartbreak is like "a bolt of lightning, striking a building, made up of delicate glass。" Another on page 138 was lovely。 It is both enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing poetry, however nothing ground breaking。 。。。more

I honestly started reading this with high hopes due to her super colorful Instagram feed, but I’ve only liked a handful of the poems in here。 The rest were kind of repetitive and vague。

I was drawn in by the lovely cover, but after reading it, I can certainly say that this is a book that is lovely on the inside as well。 The poetess has transformed the simplest of words into the deepest of emotions。 The illustrations inside the book are insanely beautiful。 Will definitely be re-reading this on a day I find myself looking for inspiration。 Absolutely in love with this one。

Very inspiring and healing book。 Her way of writing is how I write and hope to inspire others just as she does。

"strong is not only a word; it’s a compliment for all the women of my generation who couldn’t be anything but strong at a point that saved their lives"I don't usually really love these short prose poems。 I adore them sometimes but I don't fall in love with them like I did with this book。Yesterday I Was The Moon was one simple but yet very powerful collection of prose and peoms that will rock you with honest thoughts and pierce your soul with questions you will not be able to avoid。 Simple。 Beaut "strong is not only a word; it’s a compliment for all the women of my generation who couldn’t be anything but strong at a point that saved their lives"I don't usually really love these short prose poems。 I adore them sometimes but I don't fall in love with them like I did with this book。Yesterday I Was The Moon was one simple but yet very powerful collection of prose and peoms that will rock you with honest thoughts and pierce your soul with questions you will not be able to avoid。 Simple。 Beautiful。 Powerful。 "i am fighting my losses trauma and everything bringing ache because i don’t want to look in the mirror and see a tragedy staring back" 。。。more

I've not read many poetry books, but I can immediately tell you this is one of a kind。"my mother's nametranslates intothe sun of the womenshe named menoor unnaharlight of the dayi shine when i want toi burn when i have tothe sun named me light; i knowhow to dwell in the skywith eclipses and stars"There is not one bad piece of poetry in it。 There are some which leave you speechless, and others that don't but are still great nonetheless。"my dreams now look like spearsthat i have to hold upside dow I've not read many poetry books, but I can immediately tell you this is one of a kind。"my mother's nametranslates intothe sun of the womenshe named menoor unnaharlight of the dayi shine when i want toi burn when i have tothe sun named me light; i knowhow to dwell in the skywith eclipses and stars"There is not one bad piece of poetry in it。 There are some which leave you speechless, and others that don't but are still great nonetheless。"my dreams now look like spearsthat i have to hold upside downclench too tightly and i will bleedhold to lightly and they will fall"I usually don't read poetry that is centred on romantic love, because I don't really relate to it。 It's why I loved this。 The author's words are powerful, and relatable。"sometimes my wordsbecome a pile of broken glassthey do not come outwithout hurting; dripping bloodand i forget how to speak"Two things I didn't like:1。 The format。 I think that this format (no capitalisation and going to the next line randomly) is fine, but sometimes it gets frustrating。2。 This book was too short。 I want more of Noor Unnahar's words。 。。。more

——> 3。5 stars ‘be kind for this is something a lot of people can never be’ i really liked the simple shortness of these poems, and how they touched on all sorts of subjects。 really pretty little collection <3if this book was an emoji: 🤍(some of my favorites: pg。 13, 18, 42, 50, 75, 110, 125, 135, & 147) ‘i am the light i should be looking for’

"we know how to build houses out of theirmortgage dreamsand if we leave their buildings will collapse,"Beautiful but repetitive themes。 I don't really have anything more to say :)P/s: Also, I did not like the illustrations in the book。 They felt ruggedly aesthetic, somewhat like a concealment for the lack of art in the poetry itself。 My views entirely, there are loads of people who do not agree with me。 "we know how to build houses out of theirmortgage dreamsand if we leave their buildings will collapse,"Beautiful but repetitive themes。 I don't really have anything more to say :)P/s: Also, I did not like the illustrations in the book。 They felt ruggedly aesthetic, somewhat like a concealment for the lack of art in the poetry itself。 My views entirely, there are loads of people who do not agree with me。 。。。more

What a beautiful peace。 It's not everyday when I find pages to leave my guards down。 I lost my soul in this art and I found myself too。 I found a better voice now, thanks to Noor Unnahar。A must read irrespective of the circumstances you are in。 I love every single piece of it。 It couldn't have been said better。 What a beautiful peace。 It's not everyday when I find pages to leave my guards down。 I lost my soul in this art and I found myself too。 I found a better voice now, thanks to Noor Unnahar。A must read irrespective of the circumstances you are in。 I love every single piece of it。 It couldn't have been said better。 。。。more

i do not feel entitled to rate this book, as i am sure its content has got its own audience。 however, i appreciated how the poet played with the idea of spaces (homes, cities, towns):"it only takesa second or two to look into their eyesand decidewhether you're 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦or at just anotherperfectly decorated 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦" i do not feel entitled to rate this book, as i am sure its content has got its own audience。 however, i appreciated how the poet played with the idea of spaces (homes, cities, towns):"it only takesa second or two to look into their eyesand decidewhether you're 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦or at just anotherperfectly decorated 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦" 。。。more

This was an easy and short read。 But it was beautiful and brilliant。 Each poem was vivid while being deep and they each struck a chord within me。 And I loved every second of the experience。 There was a ranges of topics touched on such as self-love, forgiveness, religion (Islam), culture and healing。If you like poetry or are Desi, please pick this up。

What an unexpected treat this was。 It’s a perfect read for anyone building or rebuilding their life, anyone encouraging others, and obviously, anyone who loves poetry。 Nor’easter poetry is vivid, personal, and wastes no words。 Her poetry is such a pinpoint to an idea, feeling, or belief。 I can’t wait for her next book。 This one brought so much comfort to my friend grieving, a child finding her truth, and myself who simply loves when an author or poet values each & every word。

Aizah

this was ok。 i had really high expectations for it but it had really repetitive themes and some poems were just a sentence? and others felt underdeveloped。 but there were a lot things i related to and some of these poems were beautiful

Noor pours her heart out in these poetries, all of which were gripping。 My favorites were the ones about homesickness。 A light and refreshing read, but thoughtful and empowering。 Noor means light and through sadness, recovery, survival, nostalgia, heartbreaks, identity and growth, she filled all her poetries with noor。

poetry is definitely my go to genre of a book but, i am glad i read this。 i gave this a three star rating because there was a lot i felt i could relate to in this book and makes me want to try more poetry books and give them another chance。 yet i also had parts where i couldn’t really connect and it’s also a different way of reading as well which i am just not used to。 i think this was a great late night read because it was quick and didn’t need much focus。

I saw this book everyone on my Instagram and I knew I had to get it for myself。 Not that I had huge expectations out of this one but, I certainly wasn't thinking that this book will be a 2 stars for me。 There are certain poems which feel like they're just fragments of the poet's thoughts, broken and not in line。 It didn't really have the ability to hook me even for the first 10-12 pages。 It can be a good read for the people who like reading small poems that doesn't really go anywhere。 It was a o I saw this book everyone on my Instagram and I knew I had to get it for myself。 Not that I had huge expectations out of this one but, I certainly wasn't thinking that this book will be a 2 stars for me。 There are certain poems which feel like they're just fragments of the poet's thoughts, broken and not in line。 It didn't really have the ability to hook me even for the first 10-12 pages。 It can be a good read for the people who like reading small poems that doesn't really go anywhere。 It was a one sitting book for me, I didn't really like as much as I thought I would。 。。。more
